is the president of Cable Partners Europe LLC. Sukawaty
has exceptional global operational and business development experience in
wired and wireless communications arenas. He has a track record of
delivering on operational performance and shareholder value.
Sukawaty came to Callahan Associates, subsequently
Cable Partners, from Sprint PCS where he was President and Chief
Executive Officer. There, he directed a team that made Sprint PCS the
fastest growing wireless provider in the United
States. Sukawaty directed the business from a privately
held partnership valued to a publicly traded entity valued at over $US 50 billion which was the best
performing large cap in the S&P 500 in 1999. Under his leadership,
Sprint PCS led the US wireless industry into a phase
of explosive growth and into the wireless and Internet convergence.
Sukawaty has spent 24 years in the telecommunications
industry and has been involved in starting four businesses.
He has been a pioneer in the paging and cellular industries
since their inception. In addition to Sprint, Sukawaty has
held leadership positions in NTL Limited – where he
was CEO of the diversified British broadcast transmission
and communications company; One2One in London – where
as CEO he launched the world’s first digital PCS company;
Coastal (a US West Cellular joint venture), US West Cellular,
and AT&T. Andrew Sukawaty is also Chairman and
CEO of Inmarsat Ltd, the worldwide mobile satellite services
group
He is Deputy Chairman of mmO2 (formerly BT Wireless
FTSE/NYSE) and is also currently on the Board of Directors of Powerwave Technologies, (NASDAQ) Inc. He serves on
The Advisory Committees of The Kansas Cancer Institute and Kansas City
Equity Partners and is an advisor to General Atlantic Partners. He is the
former Chairman of CTIA (Cellular Telecommunications Industry
Association), and a former member of the British Screen Advisory Council.
Sukawaty holds a BBA from the University of Wisconsin
(1977) and an MBA from the University of Minnesota (1982).
