Telenet ends the first six months of the year with 460,000 operational Internet and telephone lines. Since the end of December 2001, Telenet has been able to expand its existing 400,000 lines with an additional 60,000 lines. Telenet's growth in the business market is solid with a total of 618 connected companies. Telenet continued to invest during the first six months of 2002, thereby confirming its dedication to high-quality and service.
Internet
The growth in the total number of broadband Internet users in Flanders continues in 2002. 245,000 broadband Internet lines were operational as of June 30, 2002, which means a growth of 50,000 lines compared with the situation at the end of December 2001. See table 1.
In 2002, Telenet also confirmed its position in the broadband Internet market. Although competition in this market is severe, Telenet is currently one of the best performing European providers.
Telephony
Telenet's telephony department was able to post a moderate growth. By the end of June 2002, Telenet registered 215,000 phone lines. 10,000 new lines were added since the end of December of last year, when Telenet had 205,000 phone lines in this segment of the market. See table 1.
Business market
Telenet was able to continue and strengthen its growth in the business market with 17% new companies. 81 new large companies were on June 30, 2002 directly connected to the fibre optic network. The total number of connected companies is currently 618. See table 1.
Operating Income & EBITDA
The operational revenues increased to x114 million. As of June 30, 2002, Telenet could show EBITDA positive of x7.8 million. Telenet's EBITDA have been positive since December of 2001. The company expects a similar trend for 2002. This positive performance is supported by recent measures implemented in the company and by efficient cost control. See table 2.
Investments
Telenet continues its investment strategy in 2002 thereby focusing on network upgrades, security and speed, and ensuring optimal quality and service.
