Telenet continues its growth in 2001 Telenet acknowledges its market leader position as broadband Internet access provider Telenet continues to invest Telenet's EBITDA result positive in December 2001 February 8, 2002 – At the end of 2001, Telenet served a total of 408,000 operational Internet access and telephone lines for private customers, self-employed professionals, and liberal professions. The number of telecommunications lines increased with 100% compared to the end of December 2000. At that time, Telenet registered 211,000 telecommunications lines. Our Corporate sales division also continued to grow significantly, with a total of 527 connected sites. In 2001, Telenet will continue to invest. As a result, Telenet endorses its commitment for quality. Internet The number of broadband Internet customers in Flanders continued to grow substantially. On the 31st of December 2001, we had 201,000 operational broadband Internet connections. In other words, an increase of 113,000 lines compared to the end of December of 2000. (See Table 1) In 2001, Telenet also consolidated its leading position on the broadband Internet access market. In spite of heavy competition, Telenet is one of the best performing providers in Europe at this moment. (See Table 3) Telephony 2001 was a successful year for telephony sales as well. At the end of December 2001, Telenet registered 207,000 operational telephone lines serving private customers, self-employed professionals, and liberal professions. In other words, an increase of 85,000 lines compared to the end of December of last year. At that time, Telenet's share in this market sector encompassed 122,000 telephone lines. (See Table 1) Corporate Customers The Corporate customers market was boosted by a spectacular growth as the number of installations more than doubled. Almost 300 new large companies installed a direct connection to our fibre optics network in 2001. As a result, the total number of site connections increased to 527 by the end of 2001. (See Table 1) Operating Income & EBITDA In 2001, Telenet increased its operating profit to 176,929,000 EUR, and succeeded in diminishing its negative operating result (EBITDA) with 66,000,000 EUR. In December 2001, Telenet's EBITDA result was positive for the first time. The prospects are that this trend will continue in 2002. This trend is based on Telenet's recently adapted prices, and controlling the cost structure as efficiently as possible. (See Table 2) Investments Due to the sharp rise in customers, Telenet will also be required to invest substantially. At present, Telenet is negotiating with a consortium of banks to set up its medium-term expansion financing.
